Rhema Wide Bay History

1961
In New Zealand, the concept of ‘Christian Radio Stations’ began in 1961 by a young man named Richard Berry.
1974
In November they were granted a licence to broadcast for 1 day!!!
1978
In November the then ‘Gospel Radio Fellowship’ was granted a permanent licence. They had changed to Radio Rhema due to Richard Berry having a “Rhema” an inspired spoken word of God.
1993
In March a meeting was held in Hervey Bay to consider the possibility if a Christian Radio Station being formed in the Wide Bay. There were about 12 people gathered to hear about the vision and all that was involved.
1994
Wide Bay Christian Broadcaster were given an aspirant radio station licence. allowing them to broadcast 90 days per year. they conducted their first test broadcast in November at 54 Torquay Road Pialba. The association was incorporated in the same year.
1996
The radio station was moved to 123 Boat Habour Drive Pialba.
1998
In January, Rhema FM Wide Bay was given a full-time Temporary licence. This means that we could broadcast 24 hours aday, 365 days a year.
1999
In December 1998, we applied for a Permanent Community Broadcasting Licence, which was granted in August 1999 by the Australian Broadcasting Authority (ABA).
2000
In November the station was moved once more to our current location 6 Carlo Street Pialba.
